Network meeting of the Energy Efficiency and Climate Protection Network in Berchtesgadener Land
Participants discuss waste heat utilization
About four months ago, the Berchtesgadener Land Wirtschaftsservice (BGLW), together with the Forschungstelle für Energiewirtschaft (FfE), Bayern Innovativ and companies from the region, founded an energy efficiency and climate protection network that aims to make high cost-savings measures available in companies and to reduce energy costs sustainably. Now the first efficiency workshop took place at the Abel laundry in Anger, where everything was about waste heat.
Anna Gruber, Philipp Hench and Katharina Gruber from FfE first informed the participants about current developments in climate policy and the energy industry as well as about the planned Energy Efficiency Law. Afterwards, they introduced the topic of waste heat with the help of practical examples, showed sources for the generation of waste heat as well as possibilities for reducing or using it. They also presented the pinch analysis as a method for determining potential energy savings in operational processes. Finally, the guests had a tour of the plant and were shown Abel’s waste heat concept and the energy-saving measures that have already been realized.
The participants then worked out in groups in how far heat recovery has already been implemented in the individual companies. They discussed which heat sources and possibilities for the reduction of waste heat are still available, how high their potential is and which obstacles as well as approaches to solutions for an increased use of waste heat exist.
For the next three years, regular energy efficiency workshops are planned with expert presentations, plant tours and an exchange of experiences between the participating companies; the next workshop on the topic of climate balance will take place on 03.05.2023 at the hotel Klosterhof. In addition, the companies will conduct individual target-setting workshops together with FfE in order to identify energy-saving potential, work out measures to reduce emissions and agree on a concrete savings target, verified by annual monitoring.
